And the mother of one of the girls has described the devastating moment she heard of her daughter’s death on the radio. Students Rhiannon Davies, 18, and Jade Emanuel, 17, died when Miss Davies’s sports car – an 18th birthday present from her family – collided with another car as they drove to a shopping trip. The crash happened in heavy rain near Merthyr Tydfil, on the A465, a few miles from the girls’ homes in the Rhondda. The best friends had planned to spend the afternoon shopping in Merthyr. Both were studying and Miss Emanuel was hoping to become a nurse. Commenting publicly for the first time Miss Davies’ parents Julie and Richard, from Treherbert, said yesterday, “Rhiannon was a beautiful 18-year-old, a popular and caring girl with a loving and kind personality. She touched the heart of everyone she knew and will be sadly missed by all her family, her friends and her boyfriend Ashley. “Goodnight and God Bless, friends together Rhi and Jade.” Miss Davies was studying a BTec in Care at Coleg Morgannwg, Rhydyfelin, near Pontypridd, and was a former pupil of Ysgol Gyfun y Cymmer. Miss Emanuel’s parents Lisa Emanuel and Neil Merry, and her stepfather, John Emanuel, said in a statement, “Jade was stunning and beautiful, would do anything for anyone. She was big sister to Leoni,12, and Jez, six, loved them to bits, and would do anything for them. She loved spoiling them. “She loved life, partying with her girlfriends, always smiling. Jade was our precious girl. Be strong, hold Rhiannon’s hand. Take care.” Jade’s mother said she found out about the crash when she heard a report on the radio. Leaving a message on her daughter’s page on social networking site Bebo, she said, “I just can’t believe u r not with us now. “Leoni, Jez, me and daddy just been going thro all your photos. I’m so glad I’ve let you live your life, go out and on hols, and have a good time. Like you said, life’s too precious to waste time. “I knew straight away it was you when it came on the radio, call it mother’s instinct. “You will always be with us. Don’t be scared babe, I’ll see you again one day, and you better be there to meet me when I come. In the meantime, I got to hang around and look after Leoni and Jez, and I know you want that too.” Miss Emanuel, from Blaencwm, was a pupil at Treorchy Comprehensive studying A-level Welsh, Health and Social Care and had applied to the University of Glamorgan to study Health Science foundation year. She wanted to be a Learning Disability Nurse and also worked part-time alongside her mother at Parish & Green opticians in Treorchy. She had a boyfriend, Gareth. Police yesterday appealed for witnesses to the accident at 1.50pm on Saturday between Hirwaun and Baverstocks, to come forward. The girls’ car is thought to have collided with a black Audi A3 travelling in the opposite direction. Three men in the Audi were taken to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr with minor injuries. Police said it had “yet to be established” why Miss Davies had lost control of the car, an MG Rover ZR, and collided head-on with the Audi. It emerged yesterday that Miss Davies had been planning to sell the car. She had placed an advert on the Bebo website, offering the car for £5,000. One of the pictures of the car was captioned “Wata beast”. Friends of the pair have posted online tributes on the site since the accident. Jack Davies wrote on Rhiannon’s page, “I can’t believe it. I was only talking to you on Friday night. Haven’t known you that long but it’s nice to know I got to know you. I’m gonna miss you so much. I hope you didn’t go through any pain.” Steve Watts said, “Can’t believe what’s happened, you’ll be missed loads.” Kylie Tavener said, “RIP Rhi, you were a stunning girl, always stopped to say hi in college. My heart goes out to your family.” Liam Carter wrote, “Why is it that the ones who last forever go so soon? You were one of the best people I knew and will ever know. My thoughts are with your family and my heart goes out to them.” An inquest will be opened this week. Saturday’s crash happened 12 miles from the B-road where four teenagers – Danielle Caswell, Katie Roberts, Louise Jones and Kayleigh Parry – died in a crash in 2006. icWales is changing
