Preventing Data Theft with the Secure Web Gateway

Web-based attacks steal information (financial details, social security numbers, product designs) that can subsequently be sold online to interested parties. Data theft/loss represents a serious risk to businesses in terms of direct damages, liability and regulatory compliance. These financially-focused attacks use legitimate websites, Web 2.0 platforms, code obfuscation and other evasive techniques to control visibility and infect as many PCs as possible without being detected. As a result, current security solutions like anti-virus, URL filtering and reputation-based services are very limited in their ability to prevent these new threats. To address the dynamic nature of today's web threats, secure web gateway solutions should include a component that utilizes real-time content inspection techniques to analyze web content on the fly before it reaches the browser.
